Jungle Safari in Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is the first national park in Nepal. Formerly called Royal Chitwan National Park it was established in 1973 and granted the status of a World Heritage Site in 1984. It covers an area of 932 km2 (360 sq mi) and is located in the subtropical Inner Terai lowlands of south-central Nepal in the Chitwan District. In altitude it ranges from about 100 metres (330 ft) in the river valleys to 815 metres (2,674 ft) in the Churia Hills.
In the north and west of the protected area the Narayani -Rapti river system forms a natural boundary to human settlements. Adjacent to the east of Chitwan National Park is Parsa Wildlife Reserve; contiguous in the south is the Indian Tiger Reserve Valmiki National Park. The coherent protected area of 2,075 km2 (801 sq mi) represents the Tiger Conservation Unit (TCU) Chitwan-Parsa-Valmiki, which covers a 3,549 km2 (1,370 sq mi) huge block of alluvial grasslands and subtropical moist deciduous forests

History

Since the end of the 19th century Chitwan - Heart of the Jungle – used to be a favorite hunting ground for Nepal’s ruling class during the winter seasons. Until the 1950s, the journey from Kathmandu to Nepal’s South was arduous as the area could only be reached by foot. Thus, in an area known as Four Mile Forest comfortable camps were set up for the feudal big game hunters and their entourage, where they stayed for a couple of months shooting hundreds of tigers, rhinocerosses, leopards and sloth bears.
In 1950, Chitwan’s forest and grasslands extended over more than 2,600 km2 (1,000 sq mi) and was home to about 800 rhinos. When poor farmers from the mid-hills moved to the Chitwan Valley in search of arable land, the area was subsequently opened for settlement, and poaching of wildlife became rampant. In 1957, the country's first conservation law inured to the protection of rhinos and their habitat. In 1959, Edwar Pritchard Gee undertook a survey of the area, recommended creation of a protected area north of the Rapti River and of a wildlife sanctuary south of the river for a trial period of ten years. After his subsequent survey of Chitwan in 1963, this time for both the Fauna Preservation Society and the International Union for Conservation of Nature, he recommended extension of the sanctuary to the south.
By the end of the 1960s, 70% of Chitwan’s jungles were cleared using DDT, thousands of people had settled there, and only 95 rhinos remained. The dramatic decline of the rhino population and the extent of poaching prompted the government to institute the Gaida Gasti – a rhino reconnaissance patrol of 130 armed men and a network of guard posts all over Chitwan. To prevent the extinction of rhinos the Chitwan National Park was gazetted in December 1970, with borders delineated the following year and established in 1973, initially encompassing an area of 544 km2 (210 sq mi).
In 1977, the park was enlarged to its present area of 932 km2 (360 sq mi). In 1997, a bufferzone of 766.1 km2 (295.8 sq mi) was added to the north and west of the Narayani-Rapti river system, and between the south-eastern boundary of the park and the international border to India.
The park’s headquarter is located in Kasara. Close-by the Gharial and Turtle Conservation Breeding Centres have been established. In 2008, a Vulture breeding centre was inaugurated aiming at holding up to 25 pairs of each of the two Gyps vultures’ species now critically endangered in Nepal - the Oriental white-backed vulture and the slender-billed vulture.

Climate

The area is located in the central climatic zone of the Himalayas, where monsoon starts in mid June and eases off in late September. During these 14–15 weeks most of the 2,500 mm yearly precipitation falls – it is pouring with rain. After mid-October the monsoon clouds have retreated, humidity drops off, and the top daily temperature gradually subsides from ±36°C / 96.8 °F to ±18°C / 64.4 °F. Nights are cooling down to 5°C / 41.0 °F until late December, when it usually rains softly for a few days. Then temperatures are rising gradually.

Vegetation

Seed of Kapok, the Silk Cotton Tree
The typical vegetation of the Inner Terai is Himalayan subtropical broadleaf forests with predominantly Sal trees covering about 70% of the national park area. Purest stands of sal occur on well drained lowland ground in the centre. Along the southern face of the Churia Hills sal is interspersed with chir pine (Pinus roxburghii). On northern slopes sal associates with smaller flowering tree and shrub species such as Beleric (Terminalia bellirica), Rosewood (Dalbergia sissoo), Axlewood (Anogeissus latifolia), Elephant Apple (Dillenia indica), Grey Downy Balsam (Garuga pinnata) and creepers such as Bauhinia vahlii and Spatholobus parviflorus.
Seasonal bushfires, flooding and erosion evoke an ever-changing mosaic of riverine forest and grasslands along the river banks. On recently deposited alluvium and in lowland areas groups of Catechu (Acacia catechu) with Rosewood (Dalbergia sissoo) predominate, followed by groups of Kapok (Bombax ceiba) with Rhino Apple trees (Trewia nudiflora), the fruits of which rhinos savour so much. Understorey shrubs of Velvety beautyberry (Callicarpa macrophylla), Hill Glory Bower (Clerodendrum sp.) and gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica) offer shelter and lair to a wide variety of species.
Terai-Duar savanna and grasslands cover about 20% of the park’s area. More than 50 species are found here including some of the world’s tallest grasses like the elephant grass called Saccharum ravennae, Giant cane (Arundo donax), Khagra reed (Phragmites karka) and several species of true grasses. Kans grass (Saccharum spontaneum) is one of the first grasses to colonise new sandbanks and to be washed away by the yearly monsoon floods.

Fauna

The wide range of vegetation types in the Chitwan National Park is haunt of more than 700 species of wildlife and a not yet fully surveyed number of butterfly, moth and insect species. Apart from King Cobra and Rock python, 17 other species of snakes, starred tortoise and monitor lizards occur. The Narayani-Rapti river system, their small tributaries and myriads of oxbow lakes is habitat for 113 recorded species of fish and mugger crocodiles.
In the early 1950s, about 235 gharials occurred in the Narayani River. The population has dramatically declined to only 38 wild gharials in 2003. Every year gharial eggs are collected along the rivers to be hatched in the breeding center of the Gharial Conservation Project, where animals are reared to an age of 6–9 years. Every year young gharials are reintroduced into the Narayani-Rapti river system, of which sadly only very few survive.

Mammals

The Chitwan National Park is home to at least 43 species of mammals. The "King of the Jungle" is the Bengal Tiger. The alluvial floodplain habitat of the Terai is one of the best tiger habitats anywhere in the world. Since the establishment of Chitwan National Park the initially small population of about 25 individuals has increased to 70–110 in 1980. In some years this population has declined due to poaching and floods. In a long-term study carried out from 1995–2002 tiger researchers identified a relative abundance of 82 breeding tigers and a density of 6 females per 100 km2.
Leopards are most prevalent on the peripheries of the park. They co-exist with tigers, but being socially subordinate are not common in prime tiger habitat. In 1988, a clouded leopard was captured and radio-collared outside the protected area, and released into the park but did not stay.
Other felids reported from the protected area comprise fishing cat, jungle cat, leopard cat, and the rare marbled cat. Chitwan is considered to have the highest population density of sloth bears with an estimated 200 to 250 individuals. Smooth-coated otters inhabit the numerous creeks and rivulets. Golden jackals are common. Bengal foxes, Spotted linsangs, palm civets, Large and Small civets, several species of mongoose, honey badgers and yellow-throated martens roam the jungle for prey. wild dogs are rare. Striped hyenas prevail on the southern slopes of the Churia Hills.

Rhinoceros: since 1973 the population has recovered well and increased to 544 animals around the turn of the century. To ensure the survival of the endangered species in case of epidemics animals are translocated annually from Chitwan to the Bardia National Park and the Sukla Phanta Wildlife Reserve since 1986. However, the population has repeatedly been jeopardized by poaching: in 2002 alone, poachers have killed 37 animals cruelly in order to saw off and sell their valuable horns.
From time to time wild elephant bulls find their way from Valmiki National Park into the valleys of the park, apparently in search of elephant cows willing to be seduced.
Gaurs spend most of the year in the less accessible Churia Hills in the south of the national park. But when the bush fires ease off in springtime and lush grasses start growing up again, they descend into the grassland and riverine forests to graze and browse. The Chitwan population of the world's largest wild cattle species has increased from 188 to 296 animals in the years 1997 to 2007.
Apart from numerous wild boars also sambar deer, Red muntjac, hog deer and herds of chital inhabit the park. Four-horned antelopes reside predominantly in the hills. Rhesus monkeys, hanuman langurs, Indian pangolins, Indian porcupines, several species of flying squirrels, black-naped hares and endangered hispid hares are also present.

Birds

Every year dedicated bird watchers and conservationists survey bird species occurring all over the country. In 2006 they recorded 543 species in the Chitwan National Park, much more than in any other protected area in Nepal and about two-thirds of Nepal's globally threatened species. Additionally, 20 black-chinned yuhina, a pair of Gould's sunbird, a pair of blossom-headed parakeet and one slaty-breasted rail, an uncommon winter visitor, were sighted in spring 2008.
Especially the park’s alluvial grasslands are important habitats for the critically endangered Bengal florican, the vulnerable lesser adjutant, grey-crowned prinia, swamp francolin and several species of grass warblers. In 2005 more than 200 slender-billed babblers were sighted in 3 different grassland types. The near threatened Oriental darter is a resident breeder around the many lakes, where also egrets, bitterns, storks and kingfisher abound.
The park is one of the few known breeding sites of the globally threatened spotted eagle.
Peafowl and jungle fowl scratch their living on the forest floor.
Apart from the resident birds about 160 migrating and vagrant species arrive in Chitwan in autumn from northern latitudes to spend the winter here, among them the Greater Spotted Eagle, Eastern Imperial Eagle and Pallas's Fish-eagle. Common sightings include Brahminy ducks and goosanders. Large flocks of bar-headed geese just rest for a few days in February on their way north.
As soon as the winter visitors have left in spring, the summer visitors arrive from southern latitudes. The calls of cuckoos herald the start of spring. The colourful Bengal Pittas and several sunbird species are common breeding visitors during monsoon. Among the many flycatcher species the Paradise flycatcher with his long undulating tail in flight is a spectacular sight.

Tourism

Chitwan National Park is one of Nepal’s most popular tourist destinations. In 1989 more than 31,000 people visited the park, and ten years later already more than 77,000.

On the edge of the national park Sauraha is a well-known spot for tourists. Accessible from the nearby Bharatpur Airport, Sauraha offers a choice of hotels, lodges, restaurants and agencies that organize day trips into the protected area.

Peak Climbing in Nepal Himalayas

Pisang Peak Climbing in Annapurna Region, Camping 21 Days
The Pisang peak lies in the Annapurna region near the beautiful Buddhist village of Manang. Pisang Peak is the most popular Peak among the trekking peaks in Annapurna region of Nepal. It is on the way to the highest pass of the world and offers good scope for exploration. The western flank of the mountain is guarded by a hanging glacier and offers considerable challenge. The western end of the ridge has huge rock slabs, which make it difficult to climb. A German Expedition made the first ascent of Pisang Peak in 1955 and since then it has been something of considerable remark. Trekkers with little experience in climbing can combine the popular classic Annapurna circuit trek with Pisang Peak climbing to have the taste of climbing in Himalayas in Nepal. The peak rises above from Pisang village and yak pastures in a uniform slope of ice and snow to the final summit pyramid. Pisang peak is considered one of the technical climbing peaks among of the climbing peaks in Nepal. Pisang peak obviously has a lot of scope for exploration and pioneering. The whole of the western flank, which is guarded by a hanging glacier, would appear to offer a considerable challenge, whilst a traverse of the whole summit ridge, which connects to a more northern summit before curving back west, looks a superb possibility. Access to the western end of the ridge how ever looks problematical as a huge rock slabs guard the ridge, a feature on this side of the valley. Seen from Pisang peak, the peak rise from yak pastures above the village in a uniform slope to the final summit pyramid, which is an undistinguished snow and ice slope. Looked at from above Ogre the peak is a little more interesting and can be seen as a curved ridge, with face above Pisang being the truncated southern end of the mountain. This is made up of steeply tilted rocks, the dip slope of which face the valley and is well seen in this peak and the great rock slabs further down the valley. This magnificent Pisang Peak and Tilicho lake trek leads you to the fine village inhabited by a wide diversity of people from different ethnic groups, offering spectacular and majestic views of the white Himalayas. Tilicho Lake is one of those places that have had next to mythic connotations. Many regard it as the highest lake in the world. The trekking path to Tilicho was “a figment of some ones fantasy” and the locals in Manang had little knowledge of the route too, and were often thought to be slightly unfriendly, as they were known for not being particularly keen on working as human beasts of burden for various expeditions that had passed. When asked to porter they had simply refused! Manang is no ordinary village. Its people are heavily involved in international trade, due to passport privileges granted in the past. The route goes along the Marshangdi River and Gorge through the remote valley of Manang also known as the district behind the Mountains, to crest the arid, windswept northern flank of Annapurna at the Thorong-La.

Saribung Expedition in Upper Mustang and Annapurna Region, Camping 27 Days
Saribung Expedition Trek is newly explored Trekking routes in 2006. It is challenging and very popular trekking trail with beaten track and difficult pass. Saribung is located in remote parts of Mustang region of Damodar Himal, close to the border of China (Tibet). The trails are rugged, cutting high into cliff sides and pass villages that have changed little over the centuries. Saribung Trek can be done in anti-clockwise for which the trek start from Phu and then ascend to Saribung pass and enter in the Mustang "Hidden Valley" and return to Jomsom or clockwise for which the trek start from Jomsom and follow Upper Mustang trail and descend to Nar-Phu valley and end at Besisahar. For mountaineering, it is easy to do Expedition but there are many passes with ice and creases in between the Damodar Kunda region and Nar-Phu valley. The trek starts from one place to another with great sceneries, cultures, religion and geographical variations. Hence trekkers can enjoy the fantastic and picturesque views of diversity in this region. Saribang trekking and expedition will start from one region and end another trekking region by enjoying scenery, religions, geographic elevation and will cross the challenging passes near Mt. Saribung . The trekkers and climbers really enjoy its fantastic and picturesque views of Himalaya and beyond.  During the trekking, trekkers meet different villages, monasteries, culture and religion of Tibetan style every day. Island Peak Climbing in Everest Region, Camping 20 Days
This is a "Trekking Peak" in the Everest region of Nepal. It is a great first Himalayan Peak. The route to the summit includes a steep slope and a narrow ridge. Crampons, Ice-axe and ropes are necessary, and it is useful to have a Sherpa guide who knows the best part of the ridge to climb. The term "trekking peak" can be misleading as in fact most of 14 or so mountains given this title by the Nepalese government are proper mountaineering propositions. Climbing Island Peak is a spectacular extension to a fabulous adventure into the Everest region. At 6183 meters, Island Peak (now know in Nepal as Imja Tse) is not among the Himalayan giants, but nevertheless provides an exhilarating mountaineering experience to the novice and expert alike. No technical mountaineering experience is necessary to climb Island Peak, simply a high level of fitness the desire to push your limits. Island peak summit is interesting and attractive with a highly glaciated west face rising from the Lhotse Glacier. The mountain itself is the extension of the South Ridge of Lhotse Shar separated by a small Col. The ridge rising to the south from this point leads to the summit of Island Peak. The extension of this ridge descending south-west is the part of the normal route of ascent and leads to the South Summit. Imja Tse not only provides an enjoyable climb but also provides some of the different spectacular scenery of Himalayas in the Khumbu Region including the Mt. Everest 8848m, Mt. Nuptse 7,855m, Lhotse 8,516m, Lhotse Middle Peak 8,410m and Lhotse Shar 8,383m make a semicircle in the north. The views of Makalu 8,475m in the east, Baruntse 7,720m, and Mt. Amadablam 6,856m in the south add more charm for climbing Island Peak. The normal route for climbing Island Peak is South East Flank & South-West Ridge Normally, the Island Peak base camp is set at Pareshaya Gyab 5,087m between Imja Tse and the lateral moraine of the Imja Glacier. Embark on a wonderful adventure with Island Peak climbing and trekking that takes you into the heartland of the Khumbu and Everest Base Camp 5,357m. Island Peak 6,183m is one of the main climbing peaks in Everest Region with an impressive and highly glaciated West Face that rises from the Lhotse Glacier. An ascent of Kala Pattar 5,545m proves a good acclimatization hike and gives you magnificent close-up views of the world's highest mountains including Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu and more. The magnificent views from the summit, however, are certainly a fitting reward for your efforts. Before climbing Island Peak, we trek up the Dudh Kosi valley from Lukla, passing through Namche and Tengboche on our way to Kala Pattar and Everest Base Camp. After being rested and feeling physically fit and acclimatized, we then head up the beautiful Imja Khola valley towards Island Peak. Besides trekking adventure, we also get to witness pristine Sherpa villages and ever-so-serene monasteries. With ponderous memories of the trekking earlier done, we retrace our route back through Namche to Lukla, and from there on we fly back to Kathmandu.

Mera Peak Climbing in Everest Region, Camping 20 Days
Mera Peak is the most popular trekking destination in remote Khumbu region and is the highest trekking peak in Nepal. This fairly challenging trek has been designed to cater to trekkers’ adventure needs to explore Mera peak from length to breadth. On scaling the summit of Mera Peak, we can have the most spectacular view of entire Himalayan ranges. The Peak itself rises to the south of Everest. The ascent of the peak is technically straightforward, however, the heavy snow and the maze of crevasses can make the way longer to the summit. Besides the charming of climbing Mera Peak, the trek to its base camp from Lukla is rewarding for experiencing little-visited and yet un-spoilt region of Nepal with densely forested hill sides. In addition the Mera Peak trek is superb. The Hinku and Hongu valleys are spectacular Himalayan wilderness. From the summit of Mera one can see 5 of the 6 highest mountains in the world: Everest, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyo. The standard route from the north involves little more than high altitude glacier walking. The ease of reaching this elevation may be its biggest danger but good weather and snow conditions are, of course, necessary for safety and success. The west and south faces of the peak offer difficult technical routes.

Yala Peak Climbing in Langtang Region, Camping 17 Days
Yala Peak is one of Nepal's easier trekking peaks, just to the north of Kathmandu in the beautiful Langtang valley region, this 5500 meters peak does not require mountaineering experience. Climbing Yala Peak (5732m) and trek through Langtang is one of the easiest, romantic, wonderful and adventurous climbing peak and trek in Nepal. Prior climbing experience is not required though, previous outdoor experience and average level of fitness is recommended. There are two to three options of how to go to Yala. The most famous and easiest one is, to follow the route, where you take the trail starting from Syabru Besi. After a 9 hour drive from Kathmandu, you will arrive in Syabru Besi and follow the itinerary given for climbing Yala peak. After five days hiking up, you will arrive, thorough the beautiful Langtang valley, to Kyanjim Gompa at 3800m. Kyanjim Gompa is situated below Langtang Lirung (7246 m) and we spend three days acclimatizing taking day-hikes in spectacular surroundings. Kyanjim Gompa is very interesting place in itself. It is a nice surprise to see a Cheese factory, established in1955 by the Swiss Association for Technical Assistance in Kyanjim Gompa. Climbing Yala Peak and do the Langtang Trek, gives you several opportunities to visit Buddhist monasteries around and gives you a sense of the Tibetan Buddhist culture and historical phenomena. We establish our base camp on a meadow at 4800 m and climb Yala Peak the next day. The last 700 m is on ice so we will be using crampons, ice axe and rope. From the summit we can see Shishapangma (8046 m) and the fluted Gangchempo (6388m). After climbing Yala Peak we will return to Syabrubesi and drive back to Kathmandu. Yala Peak is one of the well-known peaks in Langtang region. Any peak climbing program is associated with a trekking trip unless you fly directly to the Base camp with a helicopter. Similarly, Yala peak is one of them, mingled with the Langtang trek, which is known as cultural and village walk, because along the way you will be walking through different villages having Tibetan culture.

Ramdung Go Peak Climbing in Rolwaling Region, Camping 20 Days
Ramdung Peak is situated south of the Teshilabtsa pass, which borders Khumbu and the immense Rolwaling valley. Crossing the pass into the remote valley of Rolwaling takes you to the rarely climbed peak of Ramdung. Your climb of this 'hidden peak' of the Himalayan wilderness begins with a trek into the Rolwaling valley, just recently opened to trekkers. You first make an ascent up lower Ramdung, which, despite its lack of height compared to Parchamo, offers a challenging climb, requiring two high camps on the northeast face route. Under this trip we have program to ascent two peaks Ramdung Go Peak, located in the remote Rolwaling valley. This can be defined as superb alpine climbing. As the Rolwaling is Nepal’s superlative high Himalayan valley, this trip offers you the marvelous vista of the snowcapped mountains including Gauri Shankar, Melungtse and Tashi Peak. Not only the mountain views, the trip also give you an opportunity to observe the local culture, custom and lifestyle. As most of the part of this trek inhabited by Sherpa community, you have great chance to see their way of life and tradition. The views of Melungtse and Gauri Shankar are the spectacular from the top of Ramdung Go Peak. Walking through paddy fields, villages, riverbanks, forests and higher pastures will make your trip pleasant. On the other hand, ascending to Ramdung Go Peak on snow, crossing Tashi Lapcha La Pass over glacier moraine and ascent on Pachhermo Peak give you challenge.

After 5 hours driving from Kathmandu to the Dolkha on the High way to Tibet you will leave the civilization behind and head towards the tranquility of the mountain in the hidden land of Rolwaling valley. The trek passes through spectacular high alpines and rhododendron with picturesque alpine passes including traditional and unspoiled rural villages. Similarly you can have chances to see farms fields, alpine pastures and the highland villages of Sherpas, with the back drop of the towering view of Mt. Gourishankar straddling the border with Tibet. The trek leads to the last village of this area, Rolwaling at Beding. The adventurous journey continues further East to scale the 5920m Ramdung Peak. The climb is not technically hard, but it is certainly challenging on account of the altitude and the peak remoteness. Ramdung in the Rolwaling Himal is most of the time used as a 'warmup' peak for the 6000m in Rolwaling. The normal route is climbed via the Northglacier at the north ridge. The ascent of this Peak requires no more then simple snow walking. The route is not steep but quite long though. Ramdung offers an excellent view of Everest, Melengtse, Gourishankar, and a number of other peaks.

Singu Chuli (Former Fluted Peak) Peak Climbing in Annapurna Region, Camping 23 Days
Singu Chuli Peak or Fluted Peak located in the heart of Annapurna Range within the surroundings of Annapurna Sanctuary is an attractive mountain to climb from both a visual and climbing aesthetics. Singu Chuli is a fantastic looking peak that seems much more daunting viewed from Annapurna base camp than its height suggests. This impression grows the closer you get. Various routes are possible but the south ridge dominates the eye. Combined with Tharpu Chuli, its much easier neighbor, it makes a great and cheap proposition for serious Himalayan climbing in fantastic scenery without the crowds. It is a part of the ridge line extending south from Glacier Dome and sharing it with another attractive peak Tharpu Chuli or Tent Peak. This trek is strongly recommended for excellent mountain views. You will enjoy the great cultural diversity in Ghandurk, Chomorong & Ghorepani before entering Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) Base Camp. You can enjoy the panoramic views of the world’s highest mountains such as Annapurna I, Annapurna III and other snowy peaks. All peaks must be climbed with a well climbing trained guide. Singu Chuli 6501m, formerly known as Fluted Peak is the highest amongst the “Trekking Peaks” of Nepal. Wilfred Noyce, the first man to climb this mountain with David Cox, compared its beauty with Indian’s highest and probably the most beautiful peak, Nanda Devi. This peak is situated in the Annapurna Sanctuary adjoined to Tharpu Chuli and across the Hinchuli peak. We arrive at the Base camp of Singu Chuli after walking up the Modi Khola gorge to the Annapurna Sanctuary Base camp, at around 4350m and then establish two higher camps, one at 4900m at the approach of North East face and a higher one at 5500m, on the North East face of the mountain before the summit is gained. Vertical walls near the summit pose some technical challenge on this climb. This climb is suggested only to people with some alpine and ice climbing experience.

Safety is a major consideration during all our expeditions however there are dangers involved in climbing 6000m peaks that cannot be avoided. The extreme altitude, weather, cold and other mountaineering hazards ensure high altitude climbing has unavoidable risks at the best of times, members of our expeditions need to be aware of these dangers and accept that they are an integral part of high altitude mountaineering.

Chulu East Peak Climbing, Camping 25 Days
Chulu East Peak is one of the beautiful and popular trekking peaks. Chulu East Peak is located in the north of the Annapurna range. It is a part of the Manang Himal, it is also called Julu peak. Chulu east peak climbing is considered one of the best trekking circuits in the world. Chulu Massif rises north of the Marsyangdi Khola in the Manang region and form part of the Manang Himal, which is quite rightly included in the larger Damodar Himal. This remote upland area lies to the north of and in a rain shadow formed by the main Annapurna Himal. Huge glacial moraines abound etched deeply by wind erosion into fantastic pillars. Chulu Far East ascent is not difficult and we will settle a high camp near the col. From that col we follow the long South-West ridge on snow and ice. Although the approach up the Marsyangdi is relatively quick and involves no great altitude gain, the trek takes you through a wonderful variety of landscape and culture; from the subtropical lower reaches of the valley with its terraced fields where Gurung people dominate, to the ethnically as well as socially interesting Manange people of the upper valley, crossing rhododendron and pine forests.

Nar Phu trek is also known by the Hidden Valley trek as this area is isolated and hidden part of Annapurna region. A fantastic journey through wild and unexplored area is in the north of Annapurna Himal range.  Nar Phu Valley is after two villages Naar and Phu. This trek is perfect for travelers who want to discover unspoiled area, its people and culture with combination of Tilicho Lake, one of the most virgin trekking trails in Nepal. A rough and wild trek, this trek takes you to the exotic Naar Phu valley that lies in the remote corner of the Annapurna region. Opened to visitors only in the year 2003, the Naar Phu valley remains untouched by modernity. The inhabitants, who roughly comprises of about 350 Nepalese Tibetans, have retained their age old practices. Most of them are engaged in yak herding and farming. This trek offer the lifetime adventure, observation of beautiful sceneries, mountains, dense forest, landscape, wild animals like the snow leopards and some monasteries like Tashi Lakhang - ‘the blessed house of gods’ is one of the oldest monasteries (or gompas) in Manang. The gompa is one of 108 constructed by Lama Urgen Lhundup Gyatso and, along with the monastery in Braga, makes up the heart of spiritual life in the Manang District.
Tilicho Lake is one of those places that have had next to mythic connotations. The Annapurna undoubtedly provides some of the world’s best trekking routes, including as it does a greater variety of scenery and culture than can not be found in any other comparable area. The route via Tilicho Lake and the two passes (Masokanto La and Tilicho Pass) that guard it from the Kaligandaki Valley beyond is still used and offers the adventurous and fit trekker high mountain scenery at its very best. The Tilicho Lake is a famous lake from natural beauty as well as religious point of view. For the lovers of nature it a magnificent view and real opportunity to see a lake at this altitude at 4919m.For religious minded people it is a Godly blessed place best suited for devotees, it is also an area of rough and wild beauty. This trek is visited by very few people though it is recommended for trekking and travel for all type of tourists. On the way we would have passed through every type of vegetation zone from lush sub-tropical to harsh semi-desert and passed over one of the highest trekking passes in the world. We will have entered a world without roads or cars and witnessed the way people have worked, played and survived for hundreds and hundreds of years. We would have essentially walked through a time warp coming out the other side with a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world we live in.
