Introduction to Everest Mani Rimdu Festival Family Trek
This is the most popular family trekking destinations in Nepal which was UNESCO listed the park as a world heritage site in 1979 for its unique natural diversity, traditional Sherpa cultures and beautiful landscape as well as spectacular scenery of world’s greatest mountains. Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, is known in Nepal as “Sagarmatha” (Head of the Oceans) for centuries. Likewise, it is called “Chomolongma” (The mother goddess of the world) by Sherpa, the brave Himalayan ethnic tribe. You can see panoramic view of Mt. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse (7855m), Amadablam (6812m), Khongde Himal (6200m), Thamserku (6430m) and holy mountains Khumbila (5761m) etc. Our experienced kid friendly and helpful guide leads you in the hiking distance based on slow-paced-travel and along the well-used trail during the trekking days. Children under 5 years will have the option of hiking or being carried in Baby Rucksack (which your child is safely harnessed into) by our helpful, smiling and well English spoken crews or horse riding. Every year, in the Khumbu region of Nepal, this Buddhist Dance Drama is enacted by the monks of Tengboche Monastery. The site of this high altitude entertainment is in the Gompa. Tengboche translates as 'sacred bowl' and the Gompa commands a view over a clearing ringed by dwarf firs and rhododendrons. The festival of Mani Rimdu is a three-day affair, taking place straight after October's full moon. Sherpas and travelers alike flock to the scene to be entertained, and educated about the fundamentals of Buddhism as practiced by the Sherpa people of Nepal. The dances emanate from Tibet's Rongbuk Monastery on the northern side of Mount Everest, and depict the triumph of Buddhism over the earlier 'Bon religion. The preparations of the festival are The Sand Mandala, The Empowerment, The Fire Puja and Mask Dance by monks. Hundreds of Sherpas from all over Khumbu attend the performance, as it is an important social occasion as well as an entertaining spectacle.

It’s a great pleasure for us, that we are able offer this pilgrimage Tour together with a meditation program, which will be organized by our highly educated, experienced Buddhist Meditation-teacher. He will offer you to meditate with instructions, which will also refer to the area, for about three hours a day. In addition he will pass you on valuable information about Buddhism in general, which you will be able to use in daily life, even if you are not a confessed Buddhist. The places where the meditations take place will differ according to the theme of instructions, but we will meditate in the open nature as much as possible. The participation is voluntarily, but you should mention, that the meditations follow a particular structure, like it is described in the ancient Tibetan scriptures (lam rim). The duration and intensity of the meditation sessions our guide will co-ordinate with you personally at the beginning of the tour. Of course the meditation instructor will also be available for individual talks and questions at any time. Since our meditation-guide will pay attention to your personal needs at any time of the tour, we did the following outlines without including the meditation-times. But you can reckon, to meditate or listen to teachings for three times a day (morning, noon and evening), more or less one hour each time. In addition you will get instructions, how you can tackle with the meanings of the meditation while trekking or in the evenings. In this sense the intensity of this combined ‘Trekking and Meditation’ Program to a large extend depends also on yourself.
The Sacred Sites Trail was proposed to create a new circular tourism trail, to encourage tourists to visit less known sacred sites and villages. Working through local communities, the trail aspires to help restore and enhance local cultural skills and traditions and distribute tourism benefits more widely by encouraging tourists to visit villages off the established tourist route. The Sacred Sites Trail offers unexplored yet significant cultural sites with beautiful mountain scenery and green valleys. Unlike the most popular trail, the circular route takes one to the uncharted and less known villages in the Khumbhu where the turmoil of tourism is non existent and one can enjoy the serenity of the surroundings. Majestic, rugged mountains and waterfalls flowing off the steep mountain sides are indeed a sight to sore eyes. All along the trail, ancient Monasteries, Mani Stones and Chhortens and Kanis all insert and enhance a spiritual feel to the trails pristine mountain environment. The Sacred Sites Trail follows existing trekking route, encouraging visitors to extend their stay in the region, and explore additional cultural and natural sites. This circular trail passes clockwise through 10 Monasteries, Caves, Hermitages and Nunneries, starting from Namche Bazzar, visiting several sites in the Thame Valley and ending at the Tengboche Monastery. The Sacred Sites Trail is to promote indigenous culture and traditions through restoration of a circular route linking natural sacred and cultural sites in Sagarmatha National Park; improving livelihoods through mountain-based tourism and conservation.
